Family Relations


I. Addressing Brothers and Sisters:

In Urdu, we generally specify whether the sibling is older or younger, i.e.:

بڑا = big (older) چھوٹا = small (younger)

بڑا بھائی = older brother چھوٹی بہِن= younger sister

II. Addressing parents:

We have two expressions for “parents” in Urdu:

ماں-باپ and ماتا-پِتا

You can’t mix these expressions and say ماں-پِتا or ماتا-باپ . Also, always put mom first!!
